Find Facebookers on Google
Published by Rodney Rumford June 23rd, 2007 in Facebook, Facebook Applications, Facebook Software.Facebook is really smart, they let you be found on Google. Actually, if you search for someone and add the word Facebook after their name, you will most likely have a good chance of finding out if they are on facebook. You can even find people without using the word facebook.
If the searcher is non-registered (or not logged in) they only see a facebook public listing of your activity (limited) on facebook, number of friends, and 6 randomly generated friends images & names (which you can easily refresh through) You can also see the number of friends that I have on facebook, number of groups I am a member of and number of posted notes. I am not sure if this is a good thing, but i personally have no issues with it.
It looks like google is caching these results every few days. If you think about it, this is a very smart way to pull even more members into facebook. Every link on the google driven Facebook profile public listing page is a link to join facebook. Simple, engaging and smart.
If all this search engine & google visibility scares you and you do not want your information to be found, then you can merely change your privacy settings within facebook to hide your info from the search engines.
