iPhone Application on facebook. The Epitome of Stupidity
Published by Rodney Rumford June 29th, 2007 in Facebook Applications.Rating:

Since it is iPhone madness day, we have succumbed to the frenzy and will review a new iPhone application for facebook (otherwise we ignore applications like this, and there are tons of them). It is a disrespect to serious facebook programmers around the world to call this an application.
This is the dumbest facebook application ever. It does nothing but allow you to put an iphone image in your profile (12 different Apple iPhone images to choose from). No sharing, no commenting, no invites, no friends, no nothing, just an image on your profile page… uuuuggghhh
Even in this simple state, the program has bugs. The program layout is atrocious. Apple should be all over this and shut it down. Brand damage, my head hurts.
The application is called iPhone (any lawyers at apple listening). This brings me to a point that I have held back on making for some time: Brand managers better wake up and smell the coffee, your brand is being hijacked (and not in a good way). Time to start looking at how your brand is being used in application names on facebook
Don’t even bother getting the iPhone application here it is truly the Epitome of Stupidity.
Your iPhone profile image. Whatever.

Your choice of possibly unauthorized iPhone images

Ah ha ha ha. I’m pretty sure it was written as a joke.
I don’t see what the big deal is. If people want to put this in their profile, let them.
Hi, I’m the developer of this app… it’s not a great ap, and it’s useless if you don’t have a use for it. That’s the idea, really.
I’ll update this tonight to have a “who in your friends has an iPhone” kind of thing.
You could consider this a bad use of the brand, but perhaps of’s just what Apple wants. After all, this app is about passionate fans distributing pre-approved images of the product. Apple might even consider this a good thing.
My boss is fond of saying that brand is what people say about you when you’re not around. If a silly little app like this is al they have to contend with, I’d say they’re in pretty good shape.
iPhone? What is that?
I’m your regular gadget/techy guy. I could never understand the hype behind iPhone. I need cell phone which i can use to call people, can send/receive text messages and store voice mails. That’s all.
