facebook wordpress blog application Rating: ★★★★☆
This is an official application from the smart guys over at wordpress.com If you have a hosted wordpress blog at wordpress.com this application might prove interesting. Wordpress.com has added the ability to easily share your blog content onto facebook. When you post an item it can show up on your profile page. It will have a link back to the hosted page on wordpress. It also will display blog comments on your profile page.

You can post to your wordpress blog right from within facebook. The best part of this application is that it shows any new blog posts that you make automatically in your facebook Mini-Feed. On the canvas pages of the application you can also see the most recent blog posts from your friends. The user interface for easily viewing friends posts this is not the best; it would be better to have a collapsed/expandable list of blog posts. If you want to see more than a few it is too cluttered and real estate hungry.

You can also create your hosted wordpress account right from within facebook. Nice!

What’s really significant about this facebook wordpress blog application is the fact that bloggers will be able to communicate in a much easier fashion to the facebook community. This is going to extend the communication lines for some bloggers as their content can now spread even further and faster. ;) It is important to note that this application does not work if you have the blog hosted on your servers (the majority of wordpress’s millions and millions of users).

You also have the ability to see your blog stats right within facebook. Although the point (in my opinion) is to have people consume the content in facebook (which is not tracked). So if you are a blogger and happen to have a blog hosted at Wordpress.com (about 1 million users) you will most likely like this wordpress facebook application.

    Hey,

It would be helpful for you to also add an update to your story …
Facebook has allowed you to publish your RSS feeds (so, *any* blog platform will work) to Facebook for quiet a while now.

    Here’s how …
Goto the Facebook’s internal Notes application. On the right side it says “Notes Settings”. Under that is a link to “Import a blog”
Enter your blog’s address (to automatically detect RSS) or of the actual feed address. Thats it!

Sure the automatic comments through the Wordpress facebook app are useful, but c’mon … an entire app that adds THAT functionality?

Mike, you can do this via google reader, pump your wordpress external blog to google reader, there is a facebook plug in that will take the things you share and pump them into facebook. That is what I am doing, although this did catch my attention.

Yea, use the notes application to import your rss feed. It’s the closes thing we have right now.

‘Blog Friends’ is a similar Facebook app which may be interesting to those who have blogs other than hosted at WordPress.com

Hi. The Wordbook WordPress plugin uses the Facebook API to automatically update a Facebook Mini-Feed with blog posts and page posts.

The bummer about this is that it only applies to wordpress.com users. I would venture to say that the vast majority of wordpress users don’t use wordpress.com, so I can only say that this must be because they are trying to get people to use wordpress.com and buy the extra bits. I have noticed this about wordpress.com lately… there are features that you can’t get yet on a self install. Is this a conspiracy? I dunno.

Alternatively, I am currently using wordbook and it is doing a good job.

For some reason, I have not been able to get facebook notes to import my blog yet. It says it can’t find the URL. Everything else that streams RSS from my website just fine, so I assume it is a problem with facepage.

Anyhow, I’d love to see this app ported to self installs. I think the more variety, the better.
