I have really been a fan of facebook’s video product. Their video team has done a great job with this video product. Facebook now makes it easy to add video’s to groups. This is great news, think of all the ways that people will be able to communicate in enhanced ways with video within both public and private groups. This is really great.
As the creator of the Facebook Applications Group I have wanted this feature for months. Now we can easily share information with our group members. As the owner, i can decide if i want the video uploads to be open to the entire group or only the administrator. It is flexible, easy to use and the quality is good. You can upload a video or record directly from a web cam (15 minute limit).
Members can also comment on each individual video. The navigation for when you have a larger number of videos in the group is very intuitive.
The main criticism I have is that when I take a previously uploaded video and then add it to a group it does not show up in the mini-feed. I think it should (if you add photos to a group it shows up in the mini-feed). It does not make a distinction that I added that particular video to a group. If it showed that I added a video to a group it could actually drive easier discovery of groups for my network of friends.
Additionally; it would be nice to let all the members know via a blast that a new video exists for them to consume. Bottom line is that group members and group administrators will love this feature. (The next thing the video team at facebook should do is add video capabilities to the application information page. This would be very useful) Our facebook world just keeps getting better by the day.
Group changes now reflect added video’s for the group

Video in the Facebook Groups

I select which video’s to share with the group from my facebook video files. I also have the option to upload a video or instantly record a video from my web cam. Nice!

People can also comment on any video in the group, as well as easily share these videos. Web cam recording is easy and works quite well. A very cool feature is you get to choose the display image from 10 different samples in the video. Very Nice!

Mini-feed shows newly recorded or uploaded videos. But does not show up with previously added videos that are newly added to a group.

Group owners get to decide if group members or only admins can add videos. Nice feature to help control video content.

I help run a group on Facebook and I have just recently found a video, on YouTube, which is about saving a local school, and I wanted to post it on the group.
How can I do this when a YouTube URL is not allowed.
On Funwalls it is straightforward uploading a YouTube video.
Thanks.
