facebook indy films Rating: ★★★★½
This is a really cool application that does a great job of integrating independent video films into facebook seamlessly. The Indie Films facebook application is from dovetail.tv Dovetail is like Netflix, but films are downloaded in hours, not days. Dovetail is like YouTube, but you can watch a two-hour film in beautiful high-definition video. Dovetail is like no other video site you’ve ever seen.

What I like about dovetail is that it is a nice distribution and discovery platform for indy film producers. It allows a fan base to form around interesting video content. It also allows me to connect with other users easily that reviewed the same films. Now you can find quality indy films and share your thoughts about them right within facebook.

The application makes it easy for me to search for and watch 2-3 minute preview trailer of indy films right from within facebook. I can also look at different films by category. I can also write a review of the film and also apply a rating system to it.

I can easily share the film that I have watched or previewed, see what friends are using the app and their films. I can also see my friends reviews and ratings of specific films. Cool!

I have to install a desktop application (easy) if i want to download the full length film and watch it in high quality High Def and manage a library of video content (think iTV or Joost or Veoh). Which brings up a very interesting point. This is the first application that I am aware of that allows you to communicate with a desktop application directly from within facebook. You can select download movies right from within facebook and it downloads movies in the background to a desktop viewing program that manages all of your videos. Very Cool! (They are using a peer to peer Bit Torrent for handling the downloading)

The facebook Indie Films application has a great user interface design and is very intuitive to use. You will love all the features that it has. Their content library has great entertainment value and is much more engaging than the drive by “youtube” type of noise. Being able to download and watch in HD is really compelling in my opinion.

Exclusive: While speaking with one of Dovetail CEO Jason Holloway today he shared some insights:
They worked really hard to make entire application reside within facebook and not drive you to their site. They felt that the integration from a facebook app to a desktop app would make the ability to manage content in a very easy and innovative way. They are looking for content publishers of episodic content. So if you are a high quality video content publisher give them a shout.

Sharing at Vdopia is private and is as secure as an email.
