While doing some research today I found something very interesting. I noticed a small difference in the footer of the website I was using. I was at www.appaholic.com to check stats on a facebook application. I am a regular user of the site and I really like it’s functionality. The site is almost always open in one of my Firefox windows.
What caught my eye was in the footer of the website. Most people rarely look at the footer; but I almost always do this as a way to see who is behind a site. I noticed that the name at the bottom of the site had changed. The name at the bottom of the site used to be Jesse Farmer. Jesse and I had corresponded through facebook several times about what he was doing; and I always thought he was very bright.

The new name at the bottom of the site was Altura Ventures.

Altura Ventures is a VC firm run by Lee Lorenzen that is doing investments in the facebook space. So I picked up the phone and had a call with Lee and he filled me in on the details:
* He felt that Appaholic was a strategic property that had value.
* Appaholic.com will continue to operate as a portfolio company of Altura.
* Jesse Farmer will stay on and become the CEO of Appaholic.com
* Lee is a board member and chairman
Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. So don’t even ask.
Having accurate and reliable analytics of facebook applications and associated canvas pages will become invaluable in the very near future when application owners want to monetize their applications and have accurate reporting associated with their app to share with advertisers. I strongly suspect that they are working on more enhanced features for the site and other ways to use the technology for the benefit of facebook application owners. Stay Tuned.
Appaholic.com (don’t confuse them with appsaholic) is a website that allows a view into analytics of facebook applications. You can look at stats in 1 day, 7 day or all time slices. You can compare apps as well. You can see this information in near real time on the site. You can embed these charts in your facebook application if you are a developer or you can share them on your website or blog. You can also export this valuable data in an excel spreadsheet.
As an example: I have embedded charts from Appaholic that reference an application called I Support… (Disclaimer: This happens to be a small application that I own).

As you can tell from the comments on the Appsaholic post I’m a big Appaholic fan. I wonder how much he sold it to Altura for.
Any guesses? What do you think the going price should have been? I’d guess $50k at least.
What I can’t believe is that one of these sites appaholic/appsaholic is a complete rip of the other. I’d be interested to know which came first.
I remember when appaholic launched. I’m pretty positive it was first.
The stats are awesome!
