Slideshare: PowerPoint Slides on Facebook

SlideShare allows you to create, share, search, discover and comment on PowerPoint Presentations from within facebook. I have been a user of Slideshare for about a year and a big fan of the service. SlideShare.net has just launched a PowerPoint Sharing Facebook application that is fairly sophisticated that I like quite a bit.
Some people have called it the YouTube of PowerPoint Presentations. Slideshare has all types of presentations on a variety of subjects. Ranging from the humorous, serious, work-related, picture slide shows, public speeches, inspirational, academic, artistic, etc. The content on this site (application) is a treasure trove of amazing presentations. You have the ability to search their entire database of presentations based upon tags. Nice!
You can easily share your own presentations or browse ones shared by your friends & colleagues. What’s more, you are likely to discover tons of stuff from noted speakers, celebrated professionals and other famous people. So when your boss says nothing work related is on facebook just show him/her this application and a few business related presentations you have located. Better yet, share the great presentations with your co-workers and boss and look really smart. 
Slideshare currently supports the following file formats- PowerPoint (ppt & pps), OpenOffice (odp) and PDF. I have noticed that the quality of presentations is better when a PDF file is used. If you are an existing slideshare user you can easily import your presentations to the facebook app with 1 click. Nice!
You can upload presentations through facebook but we found this area of the application somewhat unreliable (I am sure this will improve). The max file upload size is 30 Meg (which is huge).
A side benefit of this application is that you are likely to find people that have the same interests as you around a specific presentation. You can also comment on any presentation. I would have given this application a higher rating but it still has a few minor bugs in the program and they have not fully leveraged the social graph as well as they could have.

I uploaded my powerpoint. In the first 2 hours, you could view it on Facebook and in SlideShare. But, then it began to hang on loading for my viewers. I can’t even launch my own powerpoint from within Slideshare itself now. My powerpoint is 20MB and they claim they can handle 50MB. I’m disappointed because I’m getting emails from everyone saying it is stuck at loading. I think I am going to try converting my powerpoint to a video file and posting it that way instead. Hopefully, that will be less frustrating for my viewers (and for me).
