Facebook Funny Friday: Gaping Void Cartoons
Published by Rodney Rumford September 15th, 2007 in Facebook Applications, Facebook Fun.Gaping Void Cartoons Rating:

The cartoon strip Gaping Void is now available as a facebook application.
I am a fan of the cartoon itself. You will most likely get a smile from the cartoon.
I am glad to see that they put their toe in the water with a facebook application.
I am not a fan of the Gaping Void facebook application. Why? It is way too 1 dimensional. I can add the cartoon to my profile page Yippee! But that is it. Nothing more. There is no user engagement at all. Simply a way to push the content into facebook. If I want to see more I have to go to the gaping void website. Why?
Facebook is all about sharing and leveraging the social graph. This application does not take advantage of these ways to engage users and allow self expression.
Here is how Gaping Void could be an awesome facebook app.
* Allow me to share a specific cartoon with my friends or post it to my mini-feed.
* Posted item should have a thumbnail of the comic that is shared.
* I should be able to comment on a specific cartoon and my friends should be able to see what I said in the comment.
* I should be able to build a list of favorite cartoons & rate the cartoons (Not Funny - Hilarious)
* More engagement on the canvas pages
* Highest user rated cartoon of the week

Hey Rodney,
All good stuff. Thanks for pointing it out. Michael and I are working on v2.0 as we speak.
Thanks Again,
Hugh
Hugh,
Keep creating and improving!
Rodney,
Great comments on how to make this a real social media app. You appear to be some sort of expert or something…

I Love Gaping Void, and I enjoy you FB insights.
It’s not possible to push new content to a canvas page if it is customized for each user though, is it? It’s only possible to update a customized canvas page if the user initiates an action.
as the developer of said application I want to thank for the kind review & good suggestions! watch out for a relaunch in october!
Looks like the people who created a Cyanide and Happiness application for Facebook took your advice and included most of the features, as well as an “Attach” feature to wallposts and messages.
