Best Way to Search for Facebook Applications

The best way to search for & find facebook applications is with a facebook application search tool called Clever Hippo. Facebooks application directory and search tool is seriously lacking in functionality. It does not do branched searched or look in the application description for keywords… It only looks for an exact match in the application tile for the search.
Conversely, Clever Hippo looks at the application title, authors, ad description for keywords. This makes it much easier to find applications. The search results can be sorted. It also has a really nice mouse over preview function which I really like. You can also see how many active users and % of engagement. The only downside here is that the stats sometime lag by a day or so.
So if you are wanting to search for an application with specific functionality by keywords Clever Hippo is a great facebook application. Try it out, it is a real time saver.
I suspect that it is only a matter of time before facebook builds this functionality into their own application directory. The time has come for facebook to do this as we near 6000 applications in the facebook directory and finding apps is becoming much more difficult.
Search and sort for facebook applications. Easy to use!

Facebook Application Preview when you mouse over. Nice!

Note, the app search is searching the app descriptions now…

Yes it is, but you have to have an exact match on some keywords for the app to appear. Sometimes it does not find cards when you search for card. Plus the directory on facebook just continues to frustrate me when I use it. The UI on facebook could be much better. This app is just faster and much easier to use.
It’s tough to compete with the beast themselves - seems that Facebook takes a very darwinian approach to product development; release something, prioritize features users want in a semi-organized fashion and then go build it.
I do think that this app should have RSVC functionality to power it from a social dimension. That would be key to growth and re-use.
I found a better tool for searching withing facebook apps: Iterating lists hundreds of apps here http://www.iterating.com/productclasses/Facebook-Applications and you can filter them by class, audience, user reviews and many more!
