It is not everyday that a facebook app turns into a real business. Well this is a great case study of how an app can start simple and then turn into a very useful facebook application that has a potentially sustainable & potentially ver profitable business model. It was widely and erroneously reported that this application was sold for $3 Million Dollars by the numerous sources online. The guys from Where I’ve Been have held true to their vision and and moving forward at warp speed.
The facebook application is now even more very travel centric and they have some very interesting features that are now connecting into the travel and reservation industry space. Perfect for users of their application. I love it when a plan comes together and business people see the value of facebook applications paired with the social graph and commerce.
These guys are moving way past the CPM model. They have roughly 3 million installs of this application with engagement. They have over 95,000 daily active users. It is ideas and execution like this that should be waking up travel companies such as Travelocity and Expedia. This is a great example of a facebook application that is a disrupter to other online businesses.
Are any of you other big online businesses paying attention here? This is the story of how a couple of guys with an idea and great execution and engagement with the social ecosystem of facebook have garnered over 3 million users and engaged them and staked out their place in under 4 months.
I interviewed the 2 founders at the Facebook Community Next Conference in San Jose a week or so ago. Watch this interview and see what they are doing and listen closely to what they say. Craig Ulliott & Mike Dalesandro shared some insights about the evolution of their application and business; these are some really sharp guys.

These guys do seem sharp! It’s good to know there are bright, ambitious people behind one of my favorite Facebook apps. I’m very excited about the future of WIB with regard to what Craig(?) said about turning it into the first truly Web 2.0 travel app! BTW nice interview Rodney!
Great interview. I look forward to giving this tool a try. It is incredibly scary how visionary you two are.
Interesting concept. Can not wait to give this a trial run. I have just returned from China and would like to see if it works there since I visit several cities and timely air travel is not an easy accomplishment in that country.
I have already tried it and it is fun to track your travel. Great program.
What a great idea, integrating travel plans and arrangements into the “Where I’ve Been” concept. This has unlimited possibilities and the right guys to take it forward.
