Facebook Pages: A First Look

Facebook Pages mini-feed Facebook Pages Rating: ★★★★½
The New Facebook Pages just went live 2 hours ago. Business, bands, etc. can now set up a Facebook Pages page. This is really a pretty solid experience and bug free right out of the gate. This is an easy way to get your brand onto facebook. The features are fairly robust and work very similarly to facebook groups. Except there are actually pushes of data to tell people about action from the pages. Nice! You can actually have “Fans” which is kind of cool. Hey Scoble, this is where the overflow from your 5000 friends can now hang out! ;)

You can also message all of your fans (with text and video). This is very cool! I would hope that there is not an upper limit on the number of fans that you can message. You can also set up events which is a really nice feature. It also has a mini-feed, discussion board, wall, photos and video. I could not verify; but i would imagine that the mini-ffed would populate the news feed of the fans of the facebook page.

The other really cool thing is that you can actually add applications to these Facebook Pages. The application needs to be facebook pages enabled. Time for all you coders to start working overtime. I tried to add the Slide Application but I had a crash and it never saved the slideshow to the facebook page. In all fairness it is 3 am and I am a bit sleep deprived.

The use cases for these facebook pages are many. I am still trying to find out if these pages will be indexed by the search engines. I would imagine that they might be eventually. You can also promote your facebook page by purchasing the new social advertising units. I set one up for testing and will report back after a few days on the results.

Facebook pages also has some fairly robust reporting. This is very important. There also controls for privacy and membership for the facebook pages.

You can join the FaceReviews Facebook Page Here. I hope to see all my readers there. ;)

    Rodney,

The new Facebook pages feature does look cool and work good (I just created one for GuestBook) but doesn’t it seem pretty much the marriage of a new profile, their Ad Pro feature, and ad tracking statistics and reporting? Is this the signal of the end of FB groups?

Since Facebook hasn’t provided a directory, is anyone creating a directory of facebook pages yet (like on a wiki page)?

Hi Rodney - I spent this aft making a page for our new viral product. It’s an app, on facebook, but not a facebook app :)
    Here’s the page:

Facebook business pages are free, and can there really not be a directory/way to search for ‘em?!

And, why would they be the end of FB Groups?

Facebook needs to improve Facebook Page discovery I think. I’m not sure whether I’ve seen a “XYZ became a Fan of ABC” story in my main Newsfeed just yet.

I’ve took a look on FB Pages.

I’m wondering, to get what is missing in FB Groups (for instance, notifications), would be possible to move a group there?

The fact that FB Pages should represent “Real Entities” make me afraid that I can’t do that…

I think Facebook pages are great… makes for an easy way for businesses to communicate with their fans. True, FB should make the pages easier to find, but I like the viral way you can share your favorite pages with your friends… there is no better way to learn about cool places and things.
