Manage business projects on facebook Rating: ★★★★☆
You can now share projects with a team of friends on facebook. There is a new application that has just come online at facebook that will allow you to actually share project files with team members that you invite. Projects by divShare is easy to use within facebook.

The application allows you to easily invite friends to participate in a project. You can share image, audio, video, word, power point, excel and zip files. It shows an icon for the file type. If there is an image file it displays a thumbnail. The user interface is super simple and intuitive. That is due to the fact that the application does not have advanced features such as calendering, time lines, direct commenting regarding a specific file, etc.

It does open audio and image files directly inside of facebook. All other file types must be downloaded to be opened. It would be amazing if they could somehow marry it with open office or zoho.

The feature sets are somewhat stark at this point; but I can see how this could easily evolve into a light weight project sharing & management environment. I can also see how this could work very well for school projects or small team collaboration. The sharing of files and having a central point for conversations that is private is very nice. It is worthy to note that the security of documents themselves is unsure.

I wish that I could know who has joined the project (this is not visible). The wall like feature is easy to use and is timestamped.

So if you want to share and collaborate in an easy way this could be a great way to do that with a select group of friends on facebook. You can also have multiple projects with different groups of friends having access to the specific projects. Nice! This is not a basecamp feature rich project management solution; but it has some nice promise. It should work very well with the facebook set.

You can install the Facebook Project application from DivShare here.

    Hi Rodney -

We just launched a similar application on Facebook last week called MyOffice. While DivShare’s Projects app is a good start, we think we’ve created exactly what Facebook users will want out of a collaborative office application. We focused on creating a simple and elegant interface, but provide more advanced functionality that lets users:

    * Schedule and agree to meetings
    * Share files in one place
    * Create to-do lists and track who’s responsible for what
    * Discuss ideas and collect feedback
    * View recent activity within a project or across all projects
    * Configure privacy settings

    Check it out here: MyOffice

I still think you should use Facebook for socializing and not for working. In fact that’s what people do actually. It was designed that way originally. Don’t get me wrong, I love Facebook, but for managing my projects I still use Wrike, it just has much better project management functionality.

I like the idea of business apps on facebook. Watching this to see how it develops.

If I want to set up a group for customers, with links to documents e.g. product documentation and videos. Not alot of collaboration needed beyond discussion/wall which is already in FB.

Are these the best apps for my needs, or is there a FB doc/wiki app that I could use?

    Rodney? Dave from MyOffice?
