how to get 16 million facebook application users I was covering the Stanford Facebook Class Expo’s last week and had a chance to interview the students that created the facebook app SendHotness.

Alex Onsager and Joachim De Lombaert are 2 really smart guys and I had the pleasure to meet them when they first launched Graffiti on facebook about 6 months ago.

Their new Stanford facebook class application “SendHotness” has attained over 6 million installs on facebook and averages about 125k daily users. Pretty mind blowing stats for an application that is about 7 weeks old. Their app had more installs than any of the other apps in the facebook class. Sendhotness was also mentioned a few days ago in the Wall Street Journal.

Their facebook secret: Viral loop, measure, test, change, tweak…: Repeat until your brain goes numb. They spent 80% of their time on metrics. Here is short video interview with the guys after the expo was clearing out and it was late at night. (sorry for the poor lighting).

Hey Rodney, thanks so much for the interview!

One correction, though: Send Hotness has a little over 5 million users, and not 6 million as you reported ;)

No wonder those guys made an app called Send Hotness. They are HOT.

Sorry about that Alex. I am sure in 1 week the number will be over 6 million installs. ;)

The number today from Adonomics is: 5,837,350 installs.

Hi, great video, thank you Rodney.

I was very interested to hear that a simple invite box built into the general app framework rather than a page of friend pictures creates the most invites. I created a post recently on using the social graph to maximise invites which might interest you – take a look, let me know what you think:

    Thanks,
