Save The Rainforest On Facebook.
I have had a chance to play with the Save the Rainforest facebook application. I like it. It is a simple application that has some nice socially conscious goals.
The rainforest land is adopted through the Nature Conservancy’s “Adopt an Acre” Program. Over 17,684 square feet of rainforest have been adopted to date via the application.
You have to take a word meaning quiz and match the meaning of a word with another word. This is not a super easy vocabulary quiz. I like it and it really made me think as I saved 1 square foot of rainforest.
The average time spent on the application is over 8 minutes. This is a huge engagement statistic for any facebook application.
It is my belief that we could see several more of these types of applications that actually engage and entertain users; while at the same time provides money to a good cause. I wish they had a way for me to challenge my friends to save more rainforest than me.
My sister lives/teaches in Costa Rica and is involved in these types of causes. I love the rainforest and have spent some time in central america; so for me this application has a nice connection.
Josh Reeves is one of the Stanford team members that created this facebook application. I had a chance to interview him after the Stanford Facebook Class Presentations.
