I’ve mainly resisted Facebook gaming applications due to their capacities for creating enormous sinkholes of time. As I was recently stricken with the flu, however, I found myself desperate for the time wasters that I avoid while in possession of better health.
The clear choice was Scrabulous, a Scrabble-esque gaming site that was recently ported to Facebook platform. Unfortunately, I’ve been flu-free for nearly a week and I’m still pouring time into the game.
Scrabulous stands as a shining example of what platform can accomplish for a burgeoning Web app. Prior to its Facebook debut, Scrabulous.com had only 20,000 registered users. On Facebook, however, nearly 1 million users have added the application and more than 500,000 players participate daily. These statistics certify Scrabulous as the most active Facebook game currently being played.

It is also indicative of an emerging trend in Facebook’s social networking sphere. People are now interacting and staying connected via applications. What significance this augmentation will have on the social network’s communication spectrum remains to be seen, but Facebook’s business becomes stronger with every new thread of communication that it implements.
The app also raises some interesting legal perspectives, namely the fact that Scrabble owner Hasbro doesn’t endorse the service. Its creators have avoided legal repercussions thus far, possibly due to the fact that their based in Calcutta, but Hasbro has yet to comment on any legalities.

Darn I wish you didn’t tell me about this Rodney. I love Scrabble … err I mean Scrabble-esque games.
What’s next - Monopoliscious?
It’s Blake, not Rodney!
Blake,
A community sprung to life nearly overnight with our app Just Three Words. A user-created group (a J3W Writers Guild) has been growing, and many of our users have made connections via the app. It’s very interesting. . .
We don’t have Scrabulous’ number (yet!), but we certainly have the dedicated community.
(the Guild is here.. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7403118746 )
