Facebook Application Invites Are Dead… Almost
Published by Rodney Rumford January 30th, 2008 in Facebook.Facebook Application Invites Are Dead… Almost: Starting today users can now easily choose to ignore application invites, group invitations and event invites. Facebook has added a “clear-all” option for when you have lots of requests/invites (more than 25) waiting on your Requests page.
We now enter a new phase in facebook applications. The ground shifts to improve user experience at the expense of application owners. Is this a good thing. Possibly. The reason that it is good is that users have the ability to effectively ignore facebook app invites with 1 click. The reason this is bad is that it is now more difficult for any facebook applications (good or bad) to gain users.
The good applications bring to the surface knowledge, connections and information about your friends and many applications are inherently more useful and valuable when more of your friends also use it. Now it just got easier for facebook users to mentally lump all application invites into a SPAM type of classification and use the clear all option to clear them all out. Poof! Another application viral carrier mechanism just got seriously diminished in effectiveness.
This new feature also can clear out group & event invites as well. It does not in any way effect friend requests.
Ignore/clear requests from facebook come in 3 different categories

My list of invites with the clear all option at the top.

It does affect friend requests. You don’t have any pending friend requests?
Hurrah! Another step forward for users by Facebook.
If any of my friends are so keen for me to add any particular app, they are generally talking about it or there’s plenty of activity news about it in their feeds, in which case I might consider adding it - otherwise I’m just not interested, so I’m really pleased with this new option.
