Facebook Platform vs. MySpace Platform: The showdown is a comin’
Published by Blake Robinson January 30th, 2008 in Facebook, Facebook f8 platform, MySpace, MySpace Platform, OpenSocial.
MySpace announced today that its own developer platform is coming on Feb. 5. It’s now taking applications for developers to hoping to get in at the ground level:
The MySpace Developer Site is coming soon!
The MySpace Developer site will empower you to:
* Learn & Play with the MySpace Developer Platform and obtain core documentation
* Test & Tinker OpenSocial applications using the MySpace Container
* Build & Submit applications with our “Application Builder” that installs on live MySpace profiles
The promise of OpenSocial utilization is promising, but it remains to be seen whether MySpace can catch up with the traction that Facebook has already gotten. But MySpace still command an immense user base which should be enough to lure potential developers over to its slimy embrace.
What remains to be seen is what sort of monetization will be offered to developers, but we’ll see what info can be dug up on that.

The question is how many developers/companies have the time to keep up with the ever-changing platforms? I’ve often found myself making tweaks due to platform changes rather than focusing on business development. The thought of doing this on two platforms is scary.
