New & Improved: Tabbed Facebook Profiles

New & Improved: Tabbed Facebook Profiles are coming soon. Here comes spring cleaning part 2 (here is part one). Facebook just keeps changing the profile page to make it cleaner. First it was extended profiles… now this. When will the changes stop?
This coming spring, Facebook will be launching a redesigned profile aimed at making things simpler, cleaner, and more relevant, while still giving you control over your own profile. They want profiles to be a destination to learn about and interact with your friends.
They will be sending weekly updates out, which means that we will see a continual evolution of the profile pages over the next several months. This should be fun.
The new “About” tab features personal information in a structured way, which makes it easier to find this info on your friends’ profiles. The left column also keeps basic info (including contact info, which is not shown) in an easy to see, easy to find, consistent place on the profile.

The new Wall tab displays recent Wall posts as well as recent photos, posted items, updated status messages, and other new content. This makes your friends’ Walls more relevant and more integrated into their profiles.

The new tab structure will allow easier navigation through the currently cluttered profile pages. This will make it easy to switch between the different parts of a profile. Also, you’ll be able to feature your favorite applications by adding tabs to your profile. We are not sure how a user will add tabs at this point. It is also unclear at this time if the app favicon navigation will remain.
A cautionary word to facebook on all of these changes. The increasing levels of navigation are making it even more difficult for newer users. Facebook is becoming similar to learning a new complex software application and a lot of people just don’t have the time or energy to invest in learning all the levels. KISS. Don’t Make Me Think.
UPDATE: TechCrunch has mistakingly reported that facebook has set up a group to share information about the coming changes. In fact what they have set up is a PAGE and NOT a Group. I might also add that it is a very stripped down minimalist PAGE.
