Social News gets Mixx’ed on Facebook

Digg-competitor Mixx has launched its own Facebook app, aiming to bring its own brand of social news to the social network. Mixx has been making headlines lately, first with the implementation of clustered, meme-style stories and more recently with the announcement that it had secured $2 million in Series A1 capital.
So what’s the verdict on the app? Rating:

Quite positive. It’s clear, it’s concise and, most importantly, it mixes almost perfectly with its actual business — Mixx.
From the app, there is a seamless combination of Facebook friends who have the Mixx app installed and friends directly from Mixx.

Perhaps the coolest part of the app is YourMixx. The section culls relevant Mixx topics from your Facebook interests to deliver news especially for you.
My main concern stems from the fact that you can’t actually vote directly from Facebook. To contribute to the popularity of a story, you have to goto the Mixx site. On the flip-side, I understand wanting to draw Facebookers to Mixx for pageviews, but I think that for the integration to be successful to its fullest extent, users should have the ability to vote on stories natively in Facebook.
Regardless of the situation, I’m appreciating the technology behind Mixx a lot more than Digg these days. If only it could get over its traffic hurdles, it could be a player.

This won’t let me link to an account that I set up using OpenID. It asks for a password, and of course using OpenID there is none.
Yeah, we know that we forgot that one. We’ll get that working in a future version. Until then, if you have a Mixx OpenID account and you want it linked to your Facebook profile, drop a note to feedback@mixx.com and we’ll fix you up.
