Snowboard Challenge Races onto Facebook: After months of development and another month of perfecting the app, Snowboard Challenge is finally ready for prime time. I’ve been following the development of the game (since Rodney developed it) for some time now and I’m happy for him that it’s finally complete.
While it doesn’t exactly, follow my call for Facebook apps that actually augment and facilitate relationships, it is one of the more addictive diversions currently available on the Facebook. The video game consists of levels that the gamer snowboards down, avoid obstacles and hitting jumps for points. The higher the level; the faster and more challenging the snowboard game becomes.
You can challenge other players and build cred as the best boarder on the slope or you can, like me, be a sorry excuse for a snowboarder (on Facebook). Controls are managed with the mouse which definitely make the game feel snappier than it would have been with keyboard only controls. Jumps, however, are controlled with the keyboard, so when you’re in the air, you have to mash buttons to do tricks and score points.
Snowboard Challenge also has a complete set of multiple leader boards, including a popular one for the “daily top 100 scorers.” There is also a section for purchasing virtual bling (lift ticket, snowboards, drinks, etc.). You can purchase the virtual bling by engaging and winning challenges.
Here is a quick video recording of a gamplay that Rodney recorded when he was building the game. Sweet.
Although Snowboard Challenge initially struggled to find an audience, the game was recently added to the Zynga Game Network and has since been quickly escalating in popularity. As of this writing, it has 1,356 daily active users, which represents only 25 percent of the game’s total userbase. Way to go Rodney, but I’m still not sure why a San Diego guy would build a Snowboard Challenge instead of a Surfboard Challenge — maybe that’s part two (hint).
