Is Twitter a Social Network?
Published by Rodney Rumford March 6th, 2008 in Branding, microblogging.Social Networks are moving in all directions. Twitter is a micro-blogging platform. It allows people to update their status in under 140 characters. It is in fact a great tool to discover and share with friends interesting things you have found online or what you are currently doing.
When you look at the social media and social networks twitter is right up there at the top. It is similar to Jaiku & Pownce (which i like better because I can share downloadable files: but does not have enough of my friends there yet to be quite as useful).
The power of social networks is the connections on the network, and the ability to communicate through that network efficiently. Facebook is still the most efficient way for me to communicate and discover valuable information through the news-feed.
Twitter is somewhat similar to the facebook status feature. Short, sweet and to the point.
I have included a great video that is fun and will help you understand Twitter really quickly. This video is from the smart people at common craft.

If you want twitter with file sharing try http://www.twitplus.com/ it piggy backs on twitter. Pownce… I’ve been on it from early… it still does nothing for me… not enough community for me
