The former Google VP of Global Online Sales and Operations Sheryl Sandberg has started her first day at Facebook today. Sandberg will be serving as the social network’s COO and bringing a considerable amount of maturity experience to the company. According to Kara Swisher, her position will oversee sales, human resources, marketing and communications and business development.

Swisher has also declared that as COO, Sandberg is, “essentially No. 2 to Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.” Which is a relatively fair assertion since she now holds the second highest title within the network.

At any rate, it’s good to see some new leadership at Facebook and I hope that she serves the company well.
