Social Games Pick Up Speed

I just came across an article from the San Francisco Chronicle about how Social Gaming is gaining in popularity. We have posted information a while back about Zynga & SGN. They point out that the games continue to gain popularity and how users that are not traditional gamers are engaging with these games.
It also reports on what we have said for a long time “social gaming is not aimed at hardcore gamers; rather it is a new way for people to stay connected”.
A short excerpt from the article and a social game player: “It allows me to stay in touch with friends all around the country through a simple game,” said Segal, 36. Plus, he said, “It’s better for your brain than watching ‘Celebrity Fit Club’ or whatever.”
The combination of social networking and games, known as social gaming, is presenting online games to users who have never bothered to play or were turned off from their earlier experiences. It is also opening doors to new kinds of games, building on the social and connected nature of sites such as MySpace and Facebook.
It is also my strong belief that there lies huge opportunities for brands to create meaningful engagement within the context of a social game that surrounds their brand and allows the users to engage consistently.
