Facebook poaching more Googlers
Published by Blake Robinson April 4th, 2008 in Facebook acquisitions, business. And this time it was a guy who did a lot of poaching while at Google — poaching of eggs that is. That’s right, Google executive chef Josef Desimone will now be preparing healthier meals to Facebook’s 20-somethings.
The move comes as an obvious one to those close to the matter. Desimone and Sheryl Sandberg are close friends and he is her favorite chef. Valleywag reports that, in previous years while still Googlers, whenever Sandberg switched buildings, so did Desimone.
Sandberg has been at Facebook for a couple of weeks now and this is the biggest news to come from her arrival. Though I guess good news takes awhile to build, and it’s hard to make some on an empty stomach.
For his credit, Desimone seems like pretty much the most bad ass chef ever. In an Interview with Star Bulletin, he once said of his style of cookery, “I’ll tell you why you should have the hand-brewed soda with evaporated cane sugar, but if you still want the Coca Cola, it’s there. But it’s my job to tell you why you shouldn’t.” So what I’m trying to say is, Josef, if you’re reading this, if you should ever tire of the confines of Facebook, you’re welcome to come be my personal chef. I know it isn’t as illustrious, nor will it pay as well, but you’ll be rewarded with the constant joy of keeping me fed and I’d argue that that’s almost better than money.
