Tweetscan is a very cool website that leverages the twitter api and does some great listening for you. Brands should be listening to what people are saying about them and then responding.
I am not sure if H&RBlock is using this but they became my friend and started following me a mere few hours after I mentioned them. They also reached out to me with a private message. Very nice touch in my opinion. Think about it; when was the last time a company reached out to you and did not try to sell you something?
You can hear Robert Scoble rave about how H&R Block did a great job via twitter in reaching out to him in a matter of minutes after he tweeted about them.
If brands want immediately get into the conversation they need to monitor conversations in twitter. If you want a another very recent example of brands listening check out the comcast debacle that Mike Arrington of techcrunch had and how someone from comcast actually called him because of conversations that were happening on twitter. The twitterverse was abuzz.
All 3 of these cases are great examples of topics that are discussed in the new book “Goundswell” by Charlene Li from Forrester Research.
Do yourself a favor and checkout tweetscan today. Hey brand managers: “Can you hear me now?”
Here are some recent tweets (posts) from people mentioning comcast.

You can also do an tweetscan ego search to see what people are saying about you as well.
