Unfollow Rumford on Twitter… Um Not What I Meant
Published by Rodney Rumford May 9th, 2008 in twitter.I just received an facebook mail from a friend of mine David Hinson about a blog post that he did on authenticity not being the same as transparency. The story starts when I saw a twitter post from him that said “unfollow rumford”… I paused and thought if there might have been some valid reason he would broadcast that on twitter.
What ensued was a funny conversation about how he did not want to unfollow me but rather not have my SMS sent to his phone and he made a mistake on twitter…
David Hinson is a stand up guy and quickly apologized publicly on twitter that in fact he did not want people to unfollow me. He made it all right in the world. The lesson here is sometimes our actions on social networks can have undesired interpretations.
Private message from David sums it up nicely.

Read his blog post for all the details on transparency & authenticity are not the same thing here.
Short Excerpt: “BIG mistake. I immediately got a message from Rodney via twitter asking why was I telling everyone to unfollow him. WHAT?!? Shit. Shit. Shit. NOT what I wanted to do. I immediately apologized and set about trying to put things right by publicly acknowledging my mistake (and now feeling pretty much like the new media douchebag I was hoping NOT to become) and of course apologizing to Rodney directly (who was more than cool about it)…”
