Facebook News Feed Facelift
Published by Rodney Rumford July 31st, 2008 in Facebook.BREAKING: Facebook News Feed Facelift: Facebook’s new design just keeps getting better. In the last hour they just rolled out a new design for the news feed.
I really like the way they have organized the news feed. Users now have tabs to separate out most popular stories, photos, status updates and posted items. The news feed has been the secret sauce of facebook in terms of usefulness in my opinion. It is markedly improved from a user perspective. I no longer feel like it is a fire hose of content.
This new improvement immediately felt right to me. I like the way you can comment directly on news items and posted items right from the feed. It acts somewhat like friendfeed in the ability to center conversations around a particular item. It would be nice if you could comment on photos right from the feed as well. It would also be nice if you could have a navigation tab for applications.

Facebook’s new design just keeps getting worse.. Now the latest few status updates, which used to appear as part of the webpage in the boxes along the right-hand side, are no longer viewable by default. Now you have to click on “status updates” at the top to see them. This is not an improvement in usability.
