Facebook Olympics App by Sun

Rating: ★★★★☆

Facebook Olympics App by Sun adds a whole new dimension to the Olympics. You can easily select who will get the bronze, silver and gold medals. It then tallies points and has a leaderboard. It adds a nice dimension to the Olympics and makes me feel like march madness all over again. ;)

This is a great example of a brand embracing facebook ecosystem with a useful, fun and engaging application. I am glad to see a prominent brand like sun embrace he ecosystem with an application that people will really appreciate. I predict a few hundred thousand if not over 1 million brand impression will be had via this cool Olympics application. Nicely done!

It is interesting to note that this application was built on the Zembly platform which allows facebook application development. We have not built any applications on it yet; but it looks pretty interesting as a social development environment. Zembly is owned by Sun. I spoke with Biz Dev Mgr Ryan Kennedy and was quite impressed with some of the details that he shared with me. We will be doing a follow up post in the near future on Zembly; Sun’s new browser-based social application development environment. Released in private beta in June 2008, zembly is specifically designed for creating and hosting social applications targeting the most popular platforms on the web including Facebook, Meebo, OpenSocial, the iPhone and more. Zembly utilizes Sun hardware. I am very intrigued by what they are doing.
