The Facebook iPhone is looking better in the new upcoming version. It looks like the iphone app will actually mimic a lot of the functionality of the new facebook design. Based on what we have seen this will make the Facebook iPhone app even more useful.
In version 2.0 you will have the exact same News Feed experience as on the Facebook website. This is great because the redesigned newsfeed is very useful in the way that I can sort information very easily. You will be able to see your friends’ Posted Items, new interests and relationships, photos, and all other stories that pass through News Feed. You’ll be able to comment on every story, and filter the feed by certain categories, applications, and friend lists, just like on the new Facebook.
In version 1.1, you can only see the first 30 messages in your Inbox. In version 2.0, you will be able to see older messages, all the way back to the beginning. You’ll also be able to search your Inbox and see your Sent folder which makes it easy for you to find older messages.
All in all the new facebook iPhone app feels more robust and yet still retains easy navigation and user experience.
The newsfeed is easily filterable with the iPhone app.
The main profile page is easy to change status and upload photos quickly

Notifications get a more prominent display area.

As a developer I have to say I’m a little worried on the emphasis being placed on iphone-specific apps; one of the great things about the web is you *don’t* need to make a new version of your app for each advice; all you need to target is browsers. With multitouch Safari and the initial empahsis on web apps, it looked like iphone was going to come play in the open web, but now it looks like opinion is shifting back the other way.
Is performance so much better with a native app that it’s worth giving up all the benefits of a web app? Or is the FB app performing some kind of deeper integration w/ the iphone that a web app can’t?
this looks excellent, i seem to check fb much more frequesntly on iphone than the web these days and have been a bit disappointed with the app experience compared to the new web UI. Obviously fb is on the ball re: iphone - any news on a launch date?
