Happy Halloween: Friendfeed out Google’s Google
Published by Rodney Rumford October 31st, 2008 in Friendfeed.Social network start up Friendfeed out Google’s Google. How? Well simply put it is all in the image.

It is Halloween and Google has been known for their clever images to celebrate different holidays and occasions. Well what struck me this morning when I saw the Google Halloween image was how terrible it was. The Friendfeed Halloween image is much more representative of the Holiday and festive in my opinion.
For those that might not know. Friendfeed was started by a few ex Google Employees. Simple things like this sometimes can be very telling; like is Google losing it’s edge?
Which Halloween image do you like better? Friendfeed or Google? I know this is trivial, but it is Friday and hey it is a Holiday.

Wow, I totally don’t see your point here. The ghost and pumpkin don’t even look like their representative letters… if you didn’t know the site, you might think it was Friendfood, or Friedfood. This is more than trivial, this smacks of false controversy to drum up ad revenue. Normally I don’t have a problem with taste, but come on… losing their edge for putting up something that is so obviously fraught with more effort than Friendfood’s site? Seriously? Je me unsubscribe.
“This is more than trivial, this smacks of false controversy to drum up ad revenue.”
Hardly. If you read the history of the several hundred blog posts I have published you will see that we don’t publish rumors or aim for controversy. In fact we work really hard to lean the opposite way and provide valuable insights.
This was actually meant to be a lighthearted post. I know we can’t please everyone.
p.s. look at the friendfeed pumpkins eyes, they are the letter “e”
To be fair, the Google image was designed by Wes Craven. So it really comes down to a matter of taste, and if you like Wes Craven and his take on all things Halloween (i.e. horror), then you might enjoy his image more. But if you prefer a more family friendly Halloween than I’m sure FriendFeed is more appealing.
The Google one for sure. It’s freaking rad! I think it captures what I think of when I think Halloween. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s from Wes Craven (since I am indeed a huge horror fan).
wow.. I said think alot in that last think.. I mean post. D’oh
