Rating: ★★★★☆ I have been an early beta tester of 12seconds.TV for a long time and simply think that this micro-form of communication has some real advantages. Ever since they have hooked it into the Twitter API I think it is even more relevant as a communication form. Well, sometimes a few pics with a short voice over can have real value; and 12seconds just launched this functionality this morning with an iPhone app. You can get you copy of the iPhone app for 99cents.

12seconds has created a video slideshow iPhone app that’s been approved - it will go live in the App Store on Thursday morning (8AM PST) for $0.99. The app let’s you take 3 photos (or choose 3 photos from your library) and then record twelve seconds of audio. The photos and audio make a slideshow which outputs as a twelve second video to your 12seconds account. Here’s an example of a slide show video that I’ve recorded using the iPhone Application. This was really easy to use and I can see how people will use this form of micro-sharing even more frequently.

Video slideshow that I created from my iPhone in under 1 minute.

12Seconds.TV Brings Video Slideshows to the iPhone, Web and Twitter

Choose your 2-3 images from your iphone, record your voice, add some tags and send. It then publishes to 12seconds as well as Twitter. Super simple, intuitive, ez and fun.

12seconds launched in August, and till now they’ve been in invite-only Alpha. On Thursday they’re opening up the site in a public Beta to allow anyone to register. Every video has its own page (sort of like Flickr or Twitpic) and any video can be emailed, downloaded or embedded and published to Twitter.

This is still not a perfect video solution - Apple refuses to let people record video with an iPhone (come on Apple; open this up without users having to jailbreak their phone). But 12seconds has created the best possible workaround with this video slide show app. I found that in some ways there’s an advantage over real video, because you can re-think and re-word your audio to fit the images you’re sharing. I also really liked the fact that I could also email the video to people fright from the iPhone.
